Your account and security
Opening an account, passwords, two-step sign-in, saved addresses, alert settings, saved searches and closing an account.
Creating an account
How do I create a DealsDMV account?
Press Register at the top of the page, give your name, email address and a password, then confirm your email from the message we send.
Is it free to open an account?
Yes. An account costs nothing; you pay only for what you buy.
I did not get the confirmation email. What should I do?
Check your spam or junk folder first. Then try signing in: the sign-in page offers to send you a new confirmation link.
Why am I asked for my address after confirming my email?
So checkout, collection and shipping estimates already know where you are. It is asked once, and you can change it later in your account.
Can I have more than one account?
No. Each person may have one account, and an account belongs to one person.
Can my business have an account?
Yes, opened by a person who has authority to bind the business.
Do I need an account just to browse?
No. Anyone can browse, search and read listings; an account is needed to bid, buy, make offers, save items or send questions.
Signing in and passwords
I forgot my password. How do I reset it?
Use Forgot password on the sign-in page. We email a link that lets you choose a new password.
Does changing my password sign me out of other devices?
Yes. Every other device signed in to your account is signed out, so a lost phone or a shared computer loses access; the device you are using stays signed in.
How do I change the email address on my account?
On your account's Security page, type the new address in the Email panel and press Send me a confirmation link. The email changes once you press the link we send to the new inbox.
Why hasn't my account email changed yet?
It changes only when you press the link we sent to the new address, so a typo cannot lock you out. Until then, keep signing in with your old email; check the new inbox's spam folder for the link.
Is my password stored safely?
Yes. It is stored scrambled by our sign-in provider, and nobody at DealsDMV can read it.
What should I do if I think someone got into my account?
Change your password straight away and tell us at support@dealsdmv.com. You are not responsible for what is done through your account after you have told us it was compromised.
Can I see where my account is signed in?
Yes. Your sign-ins are recorded by IP address and browser so you can see your sessions and end any you do not recognise.
Why was my sign-in refused?
Usually a mistyped email or password. Repeated failed sign-ins are recorded to protect your account; reset your password if you are unsure of it.
Can I sign in without a password?
Yes. On the sign-in page choose Sign in with magic link, enter your email and press Send link; the link we email signs you in.
What are the rules for a DealsDMV password?
At least 10 characters, and not a password that has appeared in known data breaches — the site refuses those and asks for a different one.
What if my sign-in or reset link has expired?
Ask for a new one. A link stops working once it expires or has been used; request a fresh one from the sign-in or Forgot password page.
Why does sign-up say an account with my email already exists?
That email is already registered. Sign in instead, or use Forgot password if you cannot remember the password.
Why does sign-up say there were too many sign-ups from my connection?
Several accounts were started from the same internet connection in a short time. Wait a few minutes, then try again.
Why can't I create a new account right now?
New sign-ups can be paused for a while. If you already have an account, sign in with your email; otherwise contact DealsDMV support.
How do I change my password while signed in?
Open your account's Security page, press Change your password, then choose a new one of at least 10 characters.
Two-step sign-in
Do you offer two-step sign-in?
Yes. Any buyer can add an authenticator app to their account, so signing in needs a code from your phone as well as your password.
Is two-step sign-in required?
Not for buyers — it is your choice. It is required for our own staff.
How do I turn on two-step sign-in?
On your account's security page, start the setup, scan the QR code with an authenticator app, then type the code it shows to finish.
Why does two-step setup say the QR code has expired?
Setup codes are short-lived. Start the setup again to get a fresh QR code, and scan it straight away.
Why can't I turn two-step sign-in off with just my password?
Switching it off must be done from a sign-in that used your authenticator code, so a stolen password alone cannot remove your second lock.
Does DealsDMV keep my authenticator secret?
No. The secret is shown once, for your app to scan, and we never store it ourselves.
I changed phones and lost my authenticator. How do I get in?
Contact us at support@dealsdmv.com from your account's email address. We confirm it is you before helping you back in.
Your details and addresses
How do I update my name, phone number or address?
Sign in and open your Account: you can change your name, your addresses — each carries its own phone number — and your saved cards.
Can I save more than one address?
Yes. Your account keeps an address book, and you choose which address checkout uses by default.
How do I set my default delivery address?
In your address book, choose "Use this address by default at checkout" on the address you want.
Why was my address flagged as not found?
Addresses are checked with our shipping service. If it cannot find yours, check the street, number and ZIP code for a typo.
Why must my details be accurate?
Our Terms ask you to keep your name, email, phone and address accurate — they are what your orders, collections and deliveries rely on.
What is a preferred pickup area in my account?
A bidder preference naming where you would rather collect. When you bid on a lot that is collected somewhere else, the bid confirmation warns you before you commit.
Where do I see my automatic bids?
On your account page: each lot where a maximum bid is working for you, its current price, your ceiling and whether you lead.
Alerts you can switch on or off
Which alerts can I control?
Bidding, watchlist, saved searches, offers, messages, orders, pickup and system alerts — each can appear in the app, send an email, or reach your phone.
Where do I change my alert settings?
On your account page, under notification preferences. Save your choices and they apply at once.
What is a saved search?
A search you keep, so we can email you when new items match it. You can remove it from your account at any time.
How do I stop emails for a saved search?
Remove the saved search from your account page; its email alerts stop with it.
Where are my notifications?
Behind the bell at the top of the page, and on the notifications page.
Closing an account
How do I close my DealsDMV account?
On your account's Security page, press Ask us to close it, or email support@dealsdmv.com. Orders already placed still need to be paid for and collected first.
What happens to my information when I close my account?
We delete or de-identify it, except what the law makes us keep — order, payment and tax records for 7 years, and anything an open order or dispute still needs.
Can DealsDMV suspend my account?
Yes, for a breach of the Terms, non-payment, suspected fraud or a legal reason. If we cancel something you paid for and do not deliver it, we refund it.
Can I open a new account if mine was suspended?
No. An account may not be used to get around a suspension, a bidding limit or an unpaid order.
